How to Play Heads Up Hold'em
Heads Up Hold'em is a table poker game where the object is to make your best five-card hand using two hole cards and five community cards. Unlike traditional poker, the goal of this game is to beat the dealer. Payouts are based on whether you win the hand.
Prior to receiving cards, you must place an Ante and Odds wager. These are equal bets. You can also make side bets on Trips Plus and Pocket Bonus. Once you have placed your bets, you and the dealer will both receive hole cards.
After evaluating your cards, you can decide whether to Raise or check. If you Raise, you must place a bet of 3x your ante. After betting, the dealer will deal out all five community cards but will only expose the first three. This is the flop. Where is origin in sims 4.
On the flop, you will again decide to check or Raise. If you raise, you'll bet 2x your Ante. After betting is done, the dealer will expose the turn and river. Players can then choose to either fold their hand or play their hand at a bet equal to the Ante.
After players have made their decision, the dealer will show their cards. Dealers must qualify with at least a pair for standard bets to pay off. If the dealer does not qualify and the player wins the hand, the Ante pushes, the Play pays 1 to 1, and the Odds bet pushes. If the dealer does not qualify and wins the hand, the Ante pushes and the Play and Odds bets lose.
If the dealer qualifies and the player wins, the Ante and Play bets pay 1 to 1. The Odds bets push unless you make a straight or better.
Payouts On Odds and Side Bets
Odds will pay a bonus to you if you make a hand of a straight or better, regardless of if the dealer qualifies. Here the payout table for Odds bets:
- Royal Flush – 500 to 1
- Straight Flush – 50 to 1
- Four of a Kind – 10 to 1
- Full House – 3 to 1
- Flush – 3 to 2
- Straight – 1 to 1

Now if you make a straight or better and lose to the dealer, the Odds bet pays a bad beat. The bad beat pays the same for all hands except a flush and straight. A flush pays 8 to 1 while a straight pays 5 to 1. Any other hand will lose.
There are also a Pocket Bonus and Trips Bonus that you can play each hand. The Trips Bonus pays when you make trips or better while the Pocket Bonus pays when you have a pair or an Ace and a face card.

- Royal Flush – 100 to 1
- Straight Flush – 40 to 1
- Quads – 30 to 1
- Full House – 8 to 1
- Flush – 7 to 1

My introduction to business class had just finished playing Ellen Degeneres' HeadsUp game. While the free version of the game comes with general trivia decks of electronic cards, you can purchase custom decks for $.99.
I created a custom deck with about 15 vocabulary words from the first couple of chapters of our Introduction to Business Textbook. We spent the first 5-10 minutes of class seeing how many of the words the class could get. Totally free slots no download.
There's a limitation to the way we were playing the game.
No real deep learning was going on. Once the students found a way to get each other to say the word or phrase, the shortcut stuck. One of the terms was baby boomers. Students would typically motion like they were rocking a baby and then make a noise of something exploding.
It wasn't like the students were actually getting a lot of practice even in defining the words, let alone experiencing any higher order thinking. However, there were sure some benefits to us starting out a class that way, early in the semester.

- Reinforced the idea of having fun while learning
- Encouraged individual students to take risks
- Helped students start to use the vocabulary words from our class and identify where they may be behind in their learning
- Engaged the students' attention (not a single person was doing anything other than watching the iPad screen that was held above various students' heads, as they played)
It has been a couple of weeks since we played the game. I'm definitely going to use Heads Up again, despite the verbal shortcuts taken by the students in their attempts to raise their scores.

The students are now able to use the vocabulary from the class far better than in past semesters. Better still, they are having fun while learning and are getting to know each other. This class does an extensive project of writing a business plan and having a sense of their fellow students' personalities and strengths is going to serve them well as they select group members.

Two quick updates, since writing this post:
- I've been unable to get the Jeopardy Rocks game linked to in Richard Byrne's post to work. That's too bad because it looks like a great way to review.
- My classes played Ellen's HeadsUp game, again, today. This time, I used the random feature on the Attendance2 app to call on students, individually. Then, each student had to describe the word that I was holding above my head. I required that they actually explain or define the term, instead of using shortcuts. The game was still fun for the students, but also required a bit more knowledge on the students' part.
